Description
This Dockside Daydream vintage Spitfire photography print puts the aircraft where aircraft photography almost never puts it: in the background. A woman sits on a wooden dock in the foreground and the fighter passes low behind her.
Aviation pictures are usually taken from another aeroplane, which produces a portrait of a machine against empty sky and gives a viewer no idea how big or how close anything is. Here the dock, the water and the seated figure supply all of that. The aircraft is smaller in the frame and far more present because of it.
What the Dockside Daydream vintage Spitfire photography print does differently
This is the aviation piece for a room that is not an aviation room. Because the composition is really a figure by water with an aeroplane in it, it hangs in living rooms, bedrooms and hallways where a head-on fighter portrait would look like a museum gift shop. It is quiet at a distance and detailed up close.

The wing everybody can recognise
The elliptical planform was chosen to carry guns and undercarriage in a thin wing while keeping induced drag low, and it is the reason the type is identifiable in silhouette from underneath at any distance. The aircraft is documented as the Supermarine Spitfire. The mark in this frame is not recorded.
