Description
This Ayrton Senna 1991 McLaren poster sits at track level and close to the barrier: a red-and-white Formula 1 car crossing the frame in hard sunlight, a yellow helmet just clear of the cockpit side, a stack of tyres and a full grandstand behind it, and a painted kerb running across the bottom of the picture under a flat blue sky.
Black and white would ruin this one. The red and white split along the bodywork is the composition — in monochrome the two halves collapse into a single grey car, the yellow helmet stops being the brightest thing in the frame, and the picture stops arguing for anything.
