“The best frame is usually the one between poses.”— Shazard R.
A hand comes up to the chin and the gaze settles somewhere past the lens. The portrait is held between poses, which is where it finds its mood: still, a little guarded and entirely in the subject's control.
The bright overcast sky behind turns the figure into a block of soft blacks and greys, the kind of quiet contrast that prints beautifully on a matte cotton paper.

Shazard R.
Shazard R. is a Toronto photographer with fifteen years of professional work behind the camera, most of it in fashion and editorial. Those years built an eye for light, posture and the moment just before or after a pose.
Away from commissions, Shazard's own work leans cinematic: silhouettes held against the last of the light, portraits that read like stills from a film, and quiet studies of the city and its waterfront. The prints in this collection come from that personal archive, each one made to order and signed by hand.
