L’histoire de l’œuvre

“A silhouette tells you nothing and everything at once.”

— Shazard R.

The subject stands square to the camera with the water behind, reduced to an outline against a sky that runs from blue overhead to a thin line of warm colour at the horizon. Clouds sit low over the water in small dark shapes.

Silhouettes ask very little of a print and a great deal of the paper: the shadow has to stay rich without blocking up, and the sky has to keep its gradient. Cotton rag does both.

Shazard R.

Toronto, Canada Fashion, editorial & cinematic

Shazard R. is a Toronto photographer with fifteen years of professional work behind the camera, most of it in fashion and editorial. Those years built an eye for light, posture and the moment just before or after a pose.

Away from commissions, Shazard's own work leans cinematic: silhouettes held against the last of the light, portraits that read like stills from a film, and quiet studies of the city and its waterfront. The prints in this collection come from that personal archive, each one made to order and signed by hand.
